A wrong name spelling, an old address, or an incorrect date of birth on your ration card isn't just annoying — it can cause problems when you use the card as address proof or collect ration. The good news: corrections are free and can be done online in most states.
Common Ration Card Errors You Can Correct
- Name spelling mistakes — "Ramsh" instead of "Ramesh", missing middle name, etc.
- Wrong date of birth — affects eligibility for senior citizen benefits
- Old / incorrect address — moved to a new house within the same state
- Wrong mobile number — you won't get OTP or SMS updates
- Incorrect category — e.g., showing APL when you should be PHH
- Wrong Aadhaar number linked — causes e-KYC failure
- Outdated photo — update for fresh cards
⚠️ Important: Address corrections are only allowed within the same state. If you've moved to a different state, you must surrender your old card and apply fresh in the new state.

How to Apply for Ration Card Correction Online

Offline Correction (Visit Office)
If you prefer to apply offline, visit your nearest Tehsil/Block Food Supply Office with a filled correction form (available at the office), original documents, and photocopies. The officer will process it within 15–30 days.
What Happens After You Submit?
After submission, a food department officer may verify your documents physically (especially for address changes). Once verified and approved, your ration card data is updated in the system. You'll receive an SMS on your registered mobile. You can then download the updated e-ration card PDF from the portal.

Can I correct multiple errors in one application?

Will my ration be affected during the correction process?
No. Your existing ration entitlement continues normally during the correction process. The FPS shop will use your current record until the change is approved.
