If you're a migrant worker or moving to another state, you no longer need to worry about losing your ration. The One Nation One Ration Card (ONORC) scheme lets you collect your monthly quota from any Fair Price Shop anywhere in India โ using just your fingerprint.
What is One Nation One Ration Card (ONORC)?
ONORC is a central government initiative under the Integrated Management of Public Distribution System (IM-PDS). It enables the portability of ration cards across all states and union territories โ meaning you can buy your subsidised food grains from any Fair Price Shop in India, not just the one assigned to your home address.
โ
Coverage: ONORC is now live in all 36 states and UTs. Around 80 crore NFSA beneficiaries can use it.
Who Benefits from ONORC?
- Migrant workers โ construction workers, domestic help, factory workers who move to cities
- Students โ those studying away from their home state
- Seasonal labourers โ agricultural workers who travel for harvests
- People relocated for work โ government employees, private sector transfers
- Families temporarily living with relatives in another state
How Does ONORC Work? (Step-by-Step)
1
Your Ration Card Must Be NFSA ActiveYour card must be a PHH or AAY card under NFSA. Non-NFSA/APL white cards don't have portability benefits.
2
Aadhaar Must Be LinkedYour Aadhaar number must be seeded to your ration card. This is mandatory for ONORC.
3
Walk into Any FPS in IndiaGo to any Fair Price Shop in the state you're currently in โ no prior registration or paperwork needed.
4
Give Biometric AuthenticationThe FPS dealer will ask you to place your finger on the biometric device. The system verifies your Aadhaar fingerprint.
5
Collect Your RationOnce verified, the system deducts the allotted grains from your quota and you receive your monthly entitlement โ same quantity as your home state.
ONORC Coverage โ All States Covered
As of 2026, all 36 states and union territories are integrated under ONORC including Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Assam, the Northeast states, and Andaman & Nicobar Islands. You can check the current list at nfsa.gov.in under the ONORC section.
What if the FPS Doesn't Have the Biometric Machine?
This is a common issue in rural areas. If the FPS dealer's POS (Point of Sale) device isn't working, you can:
- Try a different FPS in the same town โ any ONORC-enabled shop will work
- Use the Mera Ration 2.0 app to locate the nearest ONORC-enabled FPS
- Contact your state's food department helpline or the national helpline 1967
Mera Ration 2.0 App โ Your ONORC Companion
The Mera Ration 2.0 app (free on Android and iOS) is designed specifically for ONORC users. You can use it to:
- Find the nearest ONORC-enabled FPS shops on a map
- Check your monthly entitlement and remaining balance
- View transaction history
- Check if your Aadhaar is properly linked
- Register feedback or complaints
๐ฑ Download: Search "Mera Ration" on Google Play Store or Apple App Store. It's the official government app, completely free.
ONORC vs Regular Ration Card โ What's the Difference?
| Feature | Regular Ration Card | ONORC-Enabled Card |
| Where to collect ration | Only your assigned FPS | Any FPS in India |
| Documentation needed at FPS | Card + ID proof | Just Aadhaar fingerprint |
| Useful for migrants | No | Yes |
| Card surrender needed | Not applicable | No โ same card works everywhere |
| Monthly quota | Same | Same (no change in entitlement) |
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to register for ONORC separately?
No. If your ration card is under NFSA (PHH or AAY) and your Aadhaar is linked, you're automatically eligible for ONORC. No registration needed.
Can I split my monthly ration between two states?
Yes, in most cases. If your family is split between two states, different members can collect portions of the quota from different states in the same month, subject to system settings.
Will I lose ration at my home state if I use ONORC in another state?
No. The system simply routes your existing entitlement to whichever FPS you visit. You don't get extra ration, but you also don't lose what you're entitled to.
Check Your Ration Card ONORC Status
