Who Can Apply for a New Ration Card?
Any Indian citizen can apply for a ration card. However, for a subsidised ration card (PHH or AAY), your family's income must fall below the poverty line as defined by your state government. Here's the basic eligibility:
- Must be an Indian citizen with a permanent address in the state
- The head of household must be 18 years or older
- You must NOT already have a ration card in any other state
- Family income should be below the state-defined threshold for PHH/AAY cards
- Families with government employees earning above โน10,000/month are generally ineligible for subsidised cards
๐ก Note: Even if you're above the poverty line, you can apply for a White / Non-NFSA ration card, which serves as valid identity and address proof even without subsidised ration benefits.
